Current Information:Born-Southwark Bethune Town Cemetery, France
Throughout April 1915, the 3rd Coldstream Guards then part of 4 Brigade, 2nd Division, were either in trenches at Givenchy near La Bassée or in billets in Le Quesnoy at Sailly-sur-la-Lys or in Bethune. The battalion diary provides very little information about their time spent here so the circumstances behind the death of Albert Friend, who died from wounds on 24th April are not known. It is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front. |
